MUSCAT: The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has issued a decision prohibiting the organization of the wedding and funeral ceremonies in mosques, halls and other public places.
The decision was taken in pursuance of the Covid-19 Supreme Committee’s ongoing convening aimed at getting updates on coronavirus, protection from the disease and ways to curb its spread.
The Supreme Committee also studied reports related to the epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 virus locally and internationally, particularly within the context of propagation of the new mutant variant “Omicron”.

The decision, the Supreme Committee said in its latest statement, was prompted by the non-abidance of some individuals in society to the previous decisions endorsed by the authorities concerned on organizing social ceremonies and the pertinent conditions to be observed, including having two-dose vaccination, wearing face masks, maintaining physical distance and operating within limited capacity (50%).
Today’s decision on prohibition of social ceremonies at mosques, halls and other public places takes place until further notice, the Covid-19 Supreme Committee affirmed.
