MUSCAT: There are 12 suspected cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Oman, the country’s Minister of Health has confirmed on Tuesday.
Speaking in an interview with Oman TV, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said: “The Supreme Committee’s continuous follow-up on the latest developments regarding coronavirus indicate that there are 12 suspected cases in Oman with the mutant Omicron.”
“Reports from South Africa indicate that Omicron is less virulent than others, but what is worrying about this virus is the speed of its spread,” he noted.

Al Saidi also said COVID-19 cases are slowly rising in ICU from three to five. “The rise in cases is not due to Omicron but due to not following the safety measures. We call on citizens and residents to adhere to precautionary measures and get vaccinated,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Health registered two confirmed cases of COVID-19 variant Omicron. According to MOH, two citizens have who returned from abroad registered the cases.
“Their condition is stable and are subject to epidemiological investigation,” MOH added.
