MUSCAT: Skies of the Sultanate of Oman are witnessing a flow of twin meteor showers that will peak tonight (Monday) and continue till the dawn of Tuesday (13, 14 December).
Ibrahim Mohammed Al Mahrooqi, Member of Oman Astronomical Society (OAS), said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the twin showers are named after the constellation of Gemini and that 2021 is ideal for watching the meteors due to prime conditions, with better chances to view them tonight after the moon sets at around 1.30 am.
Al Mahrooqi pointed out that, in 2020, a number of OAS members detected 1,063 meteors within 6 hours, with the breathtaking spectacle peaking between 1.00 and 1.59 (227 meteorites).
