MUSCAT: The Oman-Saudi Arabia Empty Quarter desert road has been officially opened on Wednesday.
Following the visit made by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, both the countries issued a joint statement announcing the opening of the road.
The carriageway traversing the treacherous dunes of the Rub Al Khali (The Empty Quarter) is expected to cut travel time by around 16 hours.

The 725 -kilometer motorway was originally scheduled for completion in 2014, but was delayed because of technical issues.
