MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed condolences to the government of India on the demise of the country’s top military commander who was killed in a helicopter crash in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
In a statement issued, the Ministry expressed its deepest “sympathy to the friendly Republic of India, the government and people, and to the families of the victims of the helicopter crash carrying Chief of Staff General Bipin Rawat today in the state of Nadu in southern India.”
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others died after the Mi-17V5 helicopter came down in hills near Coonoor city on Wednesday morning.

One lone survivor who is being treated for his injuries in hospital is said to be in critical condition.
Gen Rawat, 63, was appointed India’s first-ever Chief of Defence Staff in January 2019.
