Starting from Jan 1, cashless payment option mandatory for shops in Oman

The decision to offer customers the option of making cashless payment for goods and services comes into effect from January 1, 2022.

MUSCAT: As part of Oman Vision 2040, all shopping malls, and other commercial enterprises must be obligated to offer customers the option of making cashless (electronic) payments for goods and services from January 1, 2022.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) said the first phase will cover activities in industrial areas, shopping complexes, commercial centers, gift markets, food sales, gold and silver sales, restaurants and cafes, fruits and vegetables, in addition to transactions involving electronics, building materials, and tobacco.

“Providing the service without installation fees or monthly or annual fees for private sector institutions and commitment only to merchant transaction fees specified by the Central Bank of Oman,” the statement from MOCIIP added
