WASHINGTON: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg lost nearly USD seven billion from his fortune in a few hours after Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp suffered a massive outage on Monday night.

After the outage, Zuckerberg’s net worth was reduced to USD 20.9 billion according to media reports.

For almost six hours popular online messaging service WhatsApp and social media platforms Facebook and Instagram went offline leaving millions of users in the dark.

Downdetector, which tracks outages, said it was the largest failure it had ever seen, with 10.6 million problem reports around the world.

“To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry. We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us,” Facebook said without giving the reason behind the outage.
