MUSCAT: A total of 749 prisoners have been released from jail this year, thanks to the Fak Kurbah initiative from Oman Lawyers Association (OLA).
The initiative aims to give prisoners a second chance and help ease the financial burdens on their families. OLA helps secure people who are financially weak, and in jail for crimes relating to civil, commercial, legal and labour-based issues.
Speaking about Fak Kurbah, Dr. Mohammed Al Zadjali, Chairman of OLA said a total of 3,934 prisoners have been released over the last eight years. “Despite all the surrounding circumstances,whether economic,health or social,this initiative has not stopped.We have continued with determination,but without you we would not have continued and achieved such success.Thank you very much for what you have done,” Al Zadjali said.

“The Fak Kurba project is being implemented through the volunteer efforts of lawyers and support from various stakeholders including corporates,” he added.
The campaign, Fak Kurba – which is Arabic for redeeming anguish – was launched by OLA in 2012.
