MUSCAT: With Oman planning to launch its own satellite by 2024, it will provide several strategic benefits to the country including bridging the digital divide.
Speaking in an interview with Salim bin Said Al Alawi, Executive Director of Space Communications Technologies (SCT) said having an own satellite will provide telecommunication services to the Sultanate and covering them in all circumstances. “It will also bridge the digital divide” Al Alawi informed. “We seek to launch the Omani satellite by 2024. The project has several strategic benefits,” he added.
On Thursday, the company owned by Oman Investment Authority announced a tender for design, manufacture and launch of the artificial moon ‘OmanSat-1’.
