MUSCAT: 2,500 patients suffer kidney failure in the Sultanate, with more than 600 of them in Muscat Governorate.
In Muscat, kidney failure patients get treatment in Baushar and A’Seeb, in addition to a dialysis unit attached to Qurayat Hospital. The three facilities in Muscat have a total of 95 dialysis beds, Dr. Yaqoub Ahmed al-Maimani, Head of Baushar Dialysis Centre said.
The Baushar Dialysis Centre, opened in 1998, started operating with 28 beds serving 120 patients. By 2020, Bausher centre’s capacity rose to 52 beds serving 350 patients round the clock. Currently as many as 24 dialysis centres operate in different governorates of the Sultanate, sparing patients the need to go abroad for treatment.
