B-Camp, powered by Bloombloom, comes to the Sultanate of Oman for the first time ever. This summer, Bloombloom, the World’s First University of Collaborative Education, and The Crossroads International (TCI) are partnering to bring a unique programme designed specially for children to discover and explore their interests and, most importantly, who they are. The Crossroads International has always paved the way for futuristic education. 

Over the past year, B-Camp has influenced over 6,000 children across the globe and nurtured over 100 child prodigies like Joel. 

Joel Abraham Anoop teaches game development and technology to hundreds of children in the US, UK, Canada, Mumbai, and Trivandrum, using platforms like Bloombloom and Fiverr. 

A vast majority of children in today’s world are either completely immersed in playing games or addicted to it. We have seen that most parents are concerned for their child’s well-being but they’re clueless on how to control or rather direct the children in the right direction. Interventions like restrictions or punishments have not helped address this issue at all. 

Ever since he was little, Joel loved playing games. But his father, Anoop Abraham, a techie, had a completely different take on this. Rather than being concerned about his child, he saw an opportunity in Joel’s love for games. He decided to take Joel behind the screen rather than playing in front of it. 

Rather than saying no, Annop understood the need to provide Joel with an “equally interesting alternative” that suits his interests while preparing him for the future. Anoop Abraham also realized that the opportunities offered by the Game Development industry in the future is immense, Game Development is a major job-creator in the future, and his child might be able to reap its benefit. 

Slowly, Joel started developing an interest to understand all aspects that make the games he loves so much. Joel sought after opportunities that helped him understand the world of games better. The knowledge he acquired from Bloombloom through Fest: The School of Innovators and B-Camp, along with the encouragement and insights he gained from the game development experts who came as Joel’s educators propelled him forward. 

Joel dreams of starting his own game development company that creates amazing games like his favourite game development company, Rockstar Games. He’s been working towards his goal ever since he set his mind to it. More than a game maker, he is an aspiring entrepreneur and creator. 

Today, Joel is a game developer, with his creations available in various game publishing platforms. But he doesn’t stop there.The knowledge he has acquired, he shares with the world through various platforms, especially with children, while earning a significant amount every month. From a gamer to a game developer, now Joel has grown into an amazing educator.

But more importantly, Joel inspires his students to explore and go beyond limits. He spreads the message to everyone he touches that if he can do it so can they. Furthermore, by teaching he learns more. Through these young years, when Joel follows his passion, he acquires more knowledge than his contemporaries and grows multifold in all sense. Fest and B-Camp not only boosted his technological knowledge but it has also helped improve his personality and other behavioural qualities that are essential to survive in this world.

As an added bonus, Joel is joining us as an educator at B-camp this year to inspire children in Oman. 

These programmes are curated with another goal in mind. The foundation of Game Development lies in other disciplines like Mathematics, Science, and Arts. In game development platforms like Unity, developers would need to understand and use theoretical and practical knowledge of physics such as geometry, gravity, and friction. The fact is children who learn game development also require to learn these important pieces of science and math which makes them curious to learn it more from other other sources, bringing their interest inside classrooms in school. 

When children understand the relevance and practical use of what they learn, they shall be interested in what is taught and subsequently their knowledge of the world shall increase. 

Saying “No” is not a solution to this problem. Children might not understand and accept the decision. In this digital age, it’s impossible to keep them away from the world that opens beyond the six inch screen. Rather, if we give them an interesting way to learn and use their time, while giving them the right direction where the journey excites them, they shall surely fall in love with learning. Education should evolve in this way.
