MUSCAT: The government will not take any decisions that will harm investors and private sector companies in the country, Minister of Labour has assured.

His Excellency Dr. Mahad Said Ali Baawain informed the Board of Directors and members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the Ministry is working to improve the labour market.  “We do not aim to change labour policies in the market in a way that harm investors and business owners,” the Minister said.

Regarding the decision to hike expat work permit fees, the Minister said: “The Ministry pays attention to the stability of the labour market, and the decisions to raise new fees do not significantly affect the companies applying the Omanization rates, as these companies will receive varying discounts based on the extent to which they apply the Omanization rates.”

“The Ministry is ready to discuss any challenges facing these companies in obtaining Omani job seekers in case of unavailability of staff,” he added.
