MUSCAT: The government’s decision to raise expat work permit fees will not significantly affect companies that has higher Omanisation rate, the Minister of Labour said on Tuesday.
His Excellency Dr. Mahad Said Ali Baawain said the decisions taken by the Ministry of Labour aims to empower job seekers in the country. “We do not aim to change labour policies in the market in a way that harms investors and business owners,” the Minister said.
“The Ministry pays attention to the stability of the labour market, and the decisions to raise new fees do not significantly affect the companies applying the Omanization rates, as these companies will receive varying discounts based on the extent to which they apply the Omanization rates,” the Minister clarified.

“The Ministry is ready to discuss any challenges facing these companies in obtaining Omani job seekers in case of unavailability of staff,” the Minister added.
