MUSCAT: Several public markets in the country reported large gatherings on Friday, which is a serious violation of the Supreme Committee decisions.
Early in May, the Supreme Committee barred holding Eid prayers and traditional Eid markets and also prohibited all types of gatherings amidst surge in coronavirus cases in the country. However, on Friday many public markets witnessed large gatherings despite warnings, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported
“The decisions of the Supreme Committee have been imposed since the start of the pandemic with the aim of protecting the society from coronavirus and its health risks that may reach death,” the statement issued by the ONA said.

“These gatherings are also a clear violation of the committee’s decisions issued on May 2, which included “not holding Eid prayers and traditional Eid markets, and prohibiting all kinds of gatherings in various locations, including beaches, parks and public parks, during the days of the blessed Eid Al Fitr,” the statement added.
