MUSCAT: Coronavirus cases are increasing at an alarming rate in Oman including deaths prompting authorities to impose stringent measures including closing all commercial activities between 8pm to 5am starting from March 4.
The Supreme Committee on Monday decided to close all commercial activities across the country from March 4 to March 20. Only fuel stations, health institutions and private pharmacies are exempted from the closure. Oman on Monday recorded 312 cases and seven deaths in less than 24 hours.
According to the committee, the epidemiological situation data in the Sultanate showed that the new Covid-19 mutants including the South African strain was recorded in the country recently. “In Oman the epidemiological situation data showed an increase in the number of inpatients in all parts of the country. A number of governorates recorded high hospitalization cases that exceeded the limit,” the Committee observed.

The Supreme Committee said an alarming increase of travel related cases has been reported “especially in the light of new mutated virus.” Last week, the Committee extended the closure of beaches and parks across the governorates.
“The committee stresses the seriousness of the virus both in local and global levels and calls on everyone to take utmost care and caution. The responsibility is to protect families and society, and calls on everyone to avoid gatherings that is the primary cause of spreading the virus,” the statement added.
