MUSCAT: Meethaq Islamic Banking from Bank Muscat has debuted a new online account opening process for savings accounts that will allow digital onboarding of customers in a time of increased social distancing. In line with the bank’s vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’, the new process will allow customers easy access to banking services while minimizing the need to visit a branch.

Customers can submit the completed account opening form together with supporting documents by email and visit the selected branch only to submit the original documents for verification and collect their debit cards. The digitization of a large part of the account opening process minimizes customer visits to branches and waiting times resulting in increased compliance with the current social distancing requirements.

Meethaq customers may also use its mobile banking application to perform their financial transactions ‘24/7 anytime, anywhere’ with convenience and ease. ‘Tap and Pay’ NFC based transfers is one of the new features available in the Meethaq app, which allows customers with Android smartphones to transfer funds from their Meethaq account to another by just tapping the phone with the phone of the beneficiary. Additionally, customers can also use the app to pay their utility bills online as well as ecommerce transactions. The Meethaq app can be downloaded and activated instantly as no separate registration or filling of form is required for existing customers of the bank.

As the pioneer of Islamic banking in the Sultanate, Meethaq is committed to investing in state-of-the-art technology aimed at increasing efficiency, enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining its leadership in providing high technology solutions. Meethaq plans to further expand its services and products in the coming months.
