MUSCAT : Oman LNG Development Foundation signed a partnership agreement with Outward Bound Oman to train a number of young job seekers and equip them with a number of essential basic skills and work ethics.

This partnership comes within the efforts of the Oman LNG Company to develop human capital in the Sultanate as part of its responsibility towards society. Participants will be involved in a unique learning experience outdoors along with a series of lectures and activities which will enhance key skills required by employers in the job market  with a focus on core business ethics.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Amor Al-Mataani, CEO of Oman LNG Development Foundation, and Suleiman bin Masoud Al-Harthi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Outward Bound Oman.

“Our partners are an important element in the success story of Outward Bound Oman, through their social investment programs to support Omani youth and finance the training courses of Outward Bound. This will definitively enhance youth’s skills and capabilities, providing the country with a qualified and conscious human capital,” Outward Bound Oman Chairman Suleiman Al-Harthi.

Since being established in Oman in 2009, Outward Bound Oman has delivered training for more than 16,000 individuals. In 2014, it was further established by Ministerial Decision, and recently the second of three National Training Centres opened in Al Khoud, following the first center in Al Sharqia desert. The third training centre, located on Jebel Akhdar, will open by the end of 2021.

Outside its operations, Oman LNG, through its Development Foundation, is also contributing to Human Resource Development in the Sultanate through strategic partnerships with several entities from both public and private sectors and recognised professional bodies such as the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL) by funding training-for-employment programmes that prepare Omanis for careers in specialised fields. Upon graduation, these newly-qualified graduates are then fed into ready-made jobs available in the labour market. This particular programme has been effective in assisting many organisations in Oman to increase their own Omanisation levels and support in meeting their organisation’s capacity production. 

Oman LNG LLC

•Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC (Oman LNG) is a joint venture established by a Royal Decree in 1994 and operates under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman. The joint venture has a shareholding structure comprising the Government of Oman (51%), Shell Gas B.V (30%), Total S.A. (5.54%), Korea LNG (5%), Mitsubishi Corporation (2.77%), Mitsui & Co. (2.77%), Partex (Oman) Corporation 2%, and Itochu (0.92%).

•The Company engages in the business of producing and selling Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and its by-product, Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs). The company undertakes project operations and related activities essential to liquefy, store, transport and market Oman’s natural gas and to deliver LNG to customers. The Company’s activities contribute to the Government of Oman’s objectives of diversifying the economy. Oman LNG operates three liquefaction trains at its site in Qalhat, near Sur in the South Sharqiyah Governorate, with a nameplate capacity of 10.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). 

•Oman LNG’s Liquefaction Plant is located on the coast at Qalhat and its head office is in Muscat. 

•As of September 1, 2013, Oman LNG and Qalhat LNG integrated to form a single operating unit under the name of Oman LNG.

•Oman LNG has been adjudged as the Best Company in Corporate Social Responsibility, in the fifth edition of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Award for Voluntary Work. This makes Oman LNG the first-ever Omani company to win His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ Award for Voluntary Work twice. The Company is also recognised as the best Company in CSR in the Arab World in the “Best Arab” competition.

•Oman LNG was recognised by the Council of Ministers of Social Affairs for the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) as the best company in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Oman. The recognition to Oman LNG by the council was supported by Oman’s Ministry of Social Development and underlined the company’s many contributions to the spread of social infrastructure in Oman and the benefits the social programmes have had on the people.
