LIVE: Ministry of Labour intervenes and stops private sector from terminating 70,000 citizens

MUSCAT : Ministry of Labour is holding a press conference to reveal its implementation plan for 2021 and the challenges facing the labor market in general.

The press conference is attended by His Excellency Dr. Mahad Ba’awin, Minister of Labour, and His Excellency Salem Al Busaidi, HE Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni, Undersecretaries of the Ministry of Labour.

Excerpts from the press conference:

Minister of Labour: This year, we are targeting 32,000 jobs in the two sectors and 10,000 training opportunities.
Minister of Labour: People are looking for job opportunities, and there is cooperation with all institutions, and we have a lot of work in the coming period.
Minister of Labour: The process of employment, job creation and training is an integrative process, and we ask everyone to cooperate with us in order to reach the desired goal.
Minister of Labour: Providing job opportunities in the government sector is based on actual needs.
Minister of Labour: The strategic direction of the labour market and employment are in line with 2040 vision. We are aiming to create a job market that attracts talent and promotes employment.
HE Salim Al Busaidi:‎ Providing 7602 job opportunities through replacement in the government sector, the highest is in the education sector.
Salim Al Busaidi: We aim to qualify 500 Omanis for leadership positions in the private sector.
Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni: As national economy grows, this will be reflected in providing job opportunities for citizens.
Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni: The decision to terminate 70,000 people has been revoked.
Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni: Ministry will raise fees in issuing and renewing licenses to bring in expat workers for some professions.
Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni: There are initiatives from some authorities to resettle and employ job seekers in 2021.
