Oman bans work visas for expats in certain professions

MUSCAT : Oman’s Ministry of Labour has imposed a ban on hiring expats in certain professions in the private sector.

The decision to ban which is part of the Sultanate’s Omanisation process was issued by His Excellency Dr. Mahad bin Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour.

The following professions are now banned for expats and are restricted to only Omanis:

  1. Financial and administrative professions in insurance companies and companies operating in insurance brokerage activities.
  2. Selling, accounting, money exchange, management, and arranging goods in operating stores in malls.
  3. Account auditing professions in auto agencies.
  4. All professions related to selling new and used vehicles.
  5. Selling spare parts for new vehicles belonging to auto agencies
  6. All accounting professions related to selling new and used vehicles.

According to the decision, these visas will not be issued to expat workers after its expiry.
