MUSCAT : A court in Bahla sentenced a furniture shop owner to 10 days in jail, slapped a fine of OMR 500 and closed his commercial establishment for a month after he violated the consumer protection laws.

In a statement issued, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said the court ruled against the “commercial establishment with temporary closure, fine of OMR 500 and prison term of 10 days for the owner.”

“A consumer filed a complaint stating that the shop has agreed to customise furniture for their home but did not meet the required deadline to finish the work on time. The Public Prosecution which began investigating the case referred it to the court which issued a ruling against the shop owner,” CPA said in a statement on Monday.

CPA has also called on merchants and suppliers not to mislead consumers with advertisements and “to adhere to the provisions of the
Consumer Protection Law.”
