MUSCAT: 16 expatriates have been sentenced to six months in prison, fined OMR 500 and faces deportation for taking part in gambling and violating the Supreme Committee decisions.

In a statement issued, Public Prosecution (PP) said the 16 expats gathered at a residence in North Al Batinah to play gambling.

“The defendants were arrested while they were meeting together and playing gambling. It was proven that the first accused prepared his residence for gambling, and it was also found that two of them violated the law. Two expats who were arrested did not have proper resident permits,” PP said in a statement.

“The court ordered six months prison term, OMR 500 fine and deportation from the country for all defendants,” the statement added.
