MUSCAT : Starting from January 1, expat lawyers in Oman will not be allowed to attend or plead before any Omani court, according to the decision issued by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs.
In a decision issued in September, the Ministry said based on the directives of the Council of Ministers which set the deadline for expat lawyers registered in Oman, including the Supreme Court, to appear before any court in the Sultanate.
According to sources, there are around 600 expat lawyers working in Oman, however, they can function as legal advisors or solicitors but cannot represent a case in the court.
