MUSCAT: The decision to close Oman’s borders was taken after thorough follow-up of the current situation in the wake of a fast-spreading variant of COVID-19, the country’s Minister of Health said on Monday.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik is closely following-up the latest developments with regards to the coronavirus. “The decisions of the Supreme Committee are based on the epidemiological situation of the virus, and there is continuous follow-up and monitoring,” the Minister noted.
“His Majesty the Sultan is closely following-up,” Al Saidi informed.

However, the Minister said there are no indications to prove that the new strain of virus is dangerous. “There are no indications so far that the new strain of Covid-19 is more dangerous than the previous one,” Al Saidi said.
“Wearing a mask, social distancing, and personal hygiene are permanent treatments,” he added.
