MUSCAT: More than 45,000 expat workers with expired work permits have registered within a month to exit the country without paying fines as the deadline ends on December 31, Ministry of Labour said.
According to the details received of the total 45,715 expats registered for the exit scheme, more than 15,000 applicants are from the construction sector, while nearly 3,000 are from the automobile sector.
Speaking about the registration, Salem bin Saeed Al Badi, Director General of Labour Welfare at the Ministry of Labour said there has been an “overwhelming response” to the exit scheme ever since it started on November 15. “Both employers and workers will be exempted from all fines and fees provided they leave the country permanently,” Al Badi said.

The registration can be done at the Ministry of Labour’s website until the end of the year.
