Employers given grace period to change job status of expat workers in Oman

MUSCAT: As part of regulating the labour market, employers have been given a grace period of 30-days to correct the contract status of expat workers in the country, Ministry of Labour said on Tuesday.

In a statement issued, the Ministry said companies (employers) are allowed to change the job status from December 6, 2020 to January 6, 2020. According to the Ministry, employers can modify the professions of expats from “the banned sectors to other professions or vice versa and permitting the amendment of occupations at different professional levels in accordance with the requirements of the profession,” the statement said.

Ministry said employers can amend the salaries of the expat workers based on the approved work contract.

Employers can also apply for licence to recruit an expat worker from inside the country in the “suspended activities if conditions are met,” the statement added.
