MUSCAT: Oman has cancelled its traditional National Day military parade this year due to coronavirus social distancing requirements, Minister of Health has informed.
The Sultanate is gearing to celebrate its 50th National Day on November 18, however, in the wake of Covid-19, the government is refraining from holding any major events that can lead to gatherings. “Celebrations will be definitely there but should be in our hearts,” His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said.
“Everyone knows the importance of this National Day. Since its the 50th National Day, the plan was to have truly big celebration including the military parade and other activities but the message from His Majesty Sultan Haitham is very clear — cancelling the military parade and other big activities is a good example given how important the people’s health and life for His Majesty,” Al Saidi explained.

“Gathering for celebration can lead to spreading the virus,” Al Saidi said. “We should not expose ourselves and others to the danger of this pandemic. And that’s what His Majesty Sultan Haitham wants and that’s what Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said too wanted,” Al Saidi added.
