MUSCAT: Diwali — the festival of lights will be a low-key affair for the Indian expat community living in Oman due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The festival, which signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair, involves people decorating their homes with lights.
As gatherings are banned due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, most of them are planning for a low-key Diwali. “For the first time, we are preparing to celebrate Diwali at our homes without inviting our friends and family members,” said Akash Patel, a Muscat based resident.
