Oman, India plans to strengthen relations, joint meeting held

MUSCAT: The ninth session of Oman-India Joint Commission was held virtually on Monday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the presence of His Excellency Qais Al Youssef, Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

In a statement issued by the Ministry said: “During the meeting, ways of cooperation between the two countries were discussed in several areas, including: space and civil aviation, renewable energy and solar energy, food security and health sector and Information Technology.”

“The Sultanate is witnessing remarkable economic cooperation with the Indian side. There is a growth in Omani exports to India by 0.69 percent. As the volume of trade exchange between the Sultanate and India amounted to more than OMR 5.93 billion. Likewise, Indian exports to the Sultanate increased by 33 percent in 2019,” the statement added.

In a statement issued, the Indian Embassy in Muscat said: “A thorough review of India-Oman Economic partnership was undertaken and decisions reached towards further enhancing cooperation in key areas.”
