MUSCAT: Diabetes is continuously on the rise in Oman, putting people at an increasing risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
In a report published by National Centre of Statistics (NCSI), a total of 6,430 diabetes cases have been registered in 2019. “Among the total cases 6,115 are Omanis and 315 are expats,” the report said.
According to NCSI, with 22% North Al Batinah recorded most of the cases while Musandam governorate recorded the least number of diabetes cases with 0.8 per cent.

About 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, the majority living in low-and middle-income countries, and 1.6 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year.
