MUSCAT: Police have advised motorists not to leave valuables inside their vehicles as it can lead to theft.

The statement from Royal Oman Police (ROP) comes after series of car theft incidents were reported in the last few weeks. In two separate incidents on Monday, ROP arrested two people for stealing valuables including money from vehicles in Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

In the first incident, the accused accompanied the motorist and stole huge sum of money. “The motorist went out of his car leaving the money behind. The accused took advantage of the situation. We managed to track his movements and arrested him,” said ROP in a statement. In another incident, an Arab national was arrested for stealing money and mobile phone from a vehicle in Sur.

“We would like to advise motorists not to leave valuables including money inside your vehicle as this will be exposed to robbery,” the statement added.
