MUSCAT: Gyms will only be able to operate at 50 percent capacity, with exercise participants wearing masks and strict social distancing guidelines in place, the authorities has announced.
From Wednesday, gyms will be allowed to operate as part of a wider easing of restrictions put in place to combat the spread of Covid-19.
Additionally, masks must be worn at all time but are allowed to be partially lowered during “running exercise.”

In a statement the Government Communication Centre (GC) also urged people to book an appointment to avoid crowding.
Following are the guidelines issued by GC:
- Put on your gym-wear before leaving home.
- Book an appointment before going to the gym to avoid waiting and crowding, as fitness halls will only receive 50% of their capacity.
- Reduce movement between shared equipment and facilities in the gym.
- Sterilize the surface of sports equipment before touching them.
- Wear the mask before entering the gym and keep wearing it at all times, but you can partially lift it while running or practicing air sports.
- Keep distance of 2m between yourself and others.
- Sanitize your hands well before and after using any shared equipment.
- Make sure to bring your own personal objects.
