Covid-19: PACP shuts down pharmacy in Oman for hiking prices of face masks

MUSCAT: Authorities are clamping down on pharmacies who are taking advantage of public fears over coronavirus.

The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) on Friday announced that it has closed a pharmacy in Barka after receiving complaints from consumers about raising the price of face masks. However, PACP did not reveal the identity of the pharmacy.

According to PACA, importers are allowed to add up to 15% on the import price, while distributors are permitted to add 15%. “Any changes or increase above that will face legal action,” PACP warned.

The demand for face masks has surged after the Supreme Committee has made it mandatory for citizens and residents to wear it when in public.A fine of OMR 20 will be imposed by the Royal Oman Police against those who refrain from wearing face mask.

PACP meanwhile have asked the public to report if they come across hike in the price of face masks.
