MUSCAT: The Ministry of Manpower said it will initiate legal action against three private sector companies for not responding to the call and terminating the services of Omani employees.
In a meeting held on Tuesday, the committee formed to study the termination of Omani workforce has confirmed that among the 15 companies, 12 committed to not ending the services of the employees. “Legal action will be taken against these three companies for not responding to our call,” said Hamad bin Khamis Al Amri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Labour Affairs.
Most of the companies in the country are in the process of reducing their operational expenses in the wake of coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

However, speaking to The Arabian Stories, a top Ministry of Manpower official said that the decision to terminate the Omani workforce is a clear violation of the Supreme Committee’s decision. “We have asked the remaining four companies to look into the issue and revoke their decision. This is a clear violation of the Supreme Committee’s decision,” he said.
According to him, an employer has to give three-month notice before ending the services with an Omani employee.
