MUSCAT: The ABA – an IB World school will continue with its online classes, as the decision of the Supreme Committee to end academic year on May 7, is not applicable to international schools in the country.

Speaking exclusively to The Arabian Stories, Dr. Susan R. Groesbeck, Head of School at ABA said that the institution will continue with the academic year.  “ABA is an International School and has chosen to continue through the academic year,” she confirmed.

The school, according to Dr. Susan, have already informed the parents about the development. “Our parents are thrilled that we can continue with our excellent online teaching program. We truly care about our ABA families and want to teach the children. Parents welcome the school staying open, it allows for structure and routine in the day and our value on learning is reinforced. It’s also important that the children have contact with their friends and teachers who they really miss. School continuing for the children has benefits both academically and socially,” she said.

Online classes valuable for life
Ever since the school closure, ABA has been on the forefront providing online classes to all its students. “I am pleased that we will be able to continue with the established rhythm with our students and follow through with the creativity and knowledge exchange that is happening in the households.

“This is a time when there is a vacuum that would be created by not supplying the students toward the end of the term. We are preparing them and have modelled a new platform that will be valuable for life. Many of our students have term-end projects.  The IB curriculum asks them to do in-depth investigations that are culminating with research that would abruptly end and we are grateful that it doesn’t have to end this week,” she said.

Speaking about the classes for next year, Dr. Susan said ABA is placed to deliver the best educational experience.  “All experts predict that the coronavirus will have a cyclical nature that comes back with the regular flu season. During those times, we will predictably see schools revert to online learning for months at a time. Those schools that can “TOGGLE” back and forth between in-classroom teaching and online learning will succeed and flourish.  It will be an uncertain year and we are planning for it.  Looking at next year, ABA is placed to deliver the best educational experience,” she added.

On Tuesday, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Supreme Committee directed the Ministry of Education to end the academic year for public and private schools on May 7, 2020.
