MUSCAT: Oman intensified its measures aimed at combating the coronavirus by having the Sultan’s Armed Forces and Royal Oman Police setup checkpoints at entrances and exits of all governorates in order to control and monitor the movement of all citizens and residents starting on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

In a statement issued, Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) urged residents to stay at home to prevent the spread of the virus. On late Tuesday, Oman reported the first coronavirus death case in the country, while the Ministry of Health confirmed 192 Covid-19 cases.

Who are exempted?
According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the movement include public and private sector employees whose job requires their presence at offices to undertake necessary work as determined by the heads of departments.

In addition to the ambulance and emergency vehicles, military and security vehicles, vehicles transporting foodstuff and other essentials are also exempted.

“Vehicles transporting commercial and construction materials, petroleum derivatives and other materials used by the public and private sectors are also allowed.”

However, citizens and residents are allowed to move in exceptional cases that will be assessed at the checkpoints by security officials.
