MUSCAT: Bank Muscat has advised people to use contactless and mobile payments to protect themselves from coronavirus spread.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, concerns have circulated about whether handling cash could contribute to the spread of the virus.
Speaking exclusively to The Arabian Stories, Amjad Al Lawati, AGM – Cards and eBanking, Bank Muscat also advised customers to use digital platforms for their transactions. “The safety and well-being of our customers and employees are of utmost importance to us. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we encourage you to use online and digital channels to connect with us and transact easily and safely,” Al Lawati said.

Shop with contactless cards
For Bank Muscat customers, Al Lawati said they can make use of “their Just Tap contactless cards or Shababi contactless wristband for point of sale payments while Internet banking and mobile banking are very useful to transfer or remit money, pay utility bills and to view statements.
“We encourage all our customers to use digital banking channels and hope and pray that everyone will continue to remain safe and healthy,” he added.
Oman has confirmed 84 coronavirus cases, while 17 have recovered, according to the Ministry of Health.
