MUSCAT: Legal action have been taken against people who have published and promoted false news and rumours related to the spread of coronavirus in the country, a top official at Oman’s Public Prosecution said on Saturday.
Speaking in an interview with Oman TV, Dr Ahmed Al Shukaili, Assistant Prosecutor said that those who published or promoted news and rumours were summoned and interrogated.
According to Al Shukaili, said “these individuals were detained and the Public Prosecution will refer some of these cases to court.”

According to Al Shukaili such false news and rumours caused “a certain amount of fear and panic” among the community, and accordingly, the legal measures have been taken.
Oman on Saturday confirmed 52 cases of coronavirus in the country of which 13 have recovered.
