MUSCAT: Oman on Tuesday banned its citizens from leaving the country as the Sultanate took tough measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Supreme Committee with handling the developments resulting from the spread of Covid-19 also banned all travellers including those expat resident visa holders and GCC nationals from entering the country. “Only Omanis will be allowed to enter into the Sultanate through all air, land and sea ports. Omanis are barred from leaving the Sultanate,” the Supreme Committee said in a statement.

Late on Tuesday night, Ministry of Health registered nine new cases of coronavirus, taking the total to 33. “Eight citizens and one expatriate tested positive. Seven cases are related to traveling abroad, while the two cases are under investigation,” MOH said in a statement.
