MUSCAT: The original Will letter of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur’s that recommended His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to be the next ruler of Oman is now on display at the National Museum in Muscat.

The decision to keep the original letter at the National Museum comes following a directive from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, officials informed on Thursday.

The letter is now displayed at the Renaissance Hall at the museum gallery.

In a statement issued by the Museum authorities said: “We are excited to have the honour to display the original will letter of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said addressed to the Royal Family Council through the Defence Council. recommending, in the handwriting of the late Sultan: “Sayyid Haitham bin Tarik”, as the new sovereign of Oman. The letter can be viewed at the Renaissance Gallery.”

On January 11, the council, out of respect for the late Sultan Qaboos, decided to open the sealed Will, in front of senior military and security officials, heads of the Supreme Court, and presidents of the country’s two consultative bodies. The decision to open the Will was made — instead of electing the new Sultan — honoring Sultan Qaboos wishes.
