MUSCAT: More than 5,700 parents of Indian School Muscat (ISM) will get to vote and elect a five-member Board of Directors (BoD) in the upcoming election set to be held on January 11.
This will be the fifth election since the process was instituted in 2011 and it will be held at the ISM premises from from 8am to 5pm.
The election commission have received 16 nominations from ISM and will take a final call on the candidates on December 25. “16 people have submitted the nominations to contest for the elections. We have carefully scrutinized all the nominations. From these five will be elected to the board,” said Dr Sathish Nambiar, Head of Election Commission told reporters on Wednesday.

‘Respect your fellow candidate’
As many as 8,354 students are studying at Indian School Muscat and 5,722 parents are eligible to vote for the elections. “One parent from the family can vote for the elections. They must bring their original resident card to be eligible to vote. We will ensure smooth running of the elections,” Nambiar said.
More than 60 per cent parents voted during the previous election. “Around 3,800 parents voted last time and this time we expect the numbers to go up. We urge the parents to come forward to vote for these candidates. Your vote matters,” Babu Rajendran, election commission member pointed out.
“From the current BoD, three members will run for the elections,” Dr. Nambiar said. Meanwhie, Dr. Babysam Samuel, the current chairman of BoD has confirmed that he will not be contesting for the post again.
As per the strict election regulations, candidates are not permitted to do public campaign. “However, they are allowed to have one appeal through social media,” Dr. Nambiar said.
The commission also had a word of advice to contestants: “When you’re campaigning, ensure you don’t deride or insult your fellow contestant. Speak about your strength without being negative about the other. Let your work speak and leave it to the parents to judge it and vote,” Dr. Nambiar added.
Apart from Dr. Nambiar and Rajendran, Mr. Shakeel K.M., and Mr. Divesh Loomba also attended the press conference at the BoD head-office in Darsait.
