Muscat: Oman’s national football team players took collective responsibility for failing to reach the Gulf Cup final four and a disappointing defeat at the hands of Saudi Arabia on Monday night.

Defending champions Oman were completely outplayed by the mighty Saudi 3-1 in Doha.

Speaking to The Arabian Stories, star goalkeeper Faiz Al Rushaidi said he regretted his team let down its supporters.

“I would like to say a lot, but I will try to keep it short. A difficult defeat for our team. I would like to apologize to our people who believed in us. We also believed, we have a very good team, but you know how it is… Saudi were a better team today than us. We take full responsibility,” Al Rushaidi said.

Meanwhile star striker Saad Suhail while apologising for the defeat blamed it on fatigue. “If you look we just had one-day off before this game and we were completely exhausted. We’re sorry for this and all of us take the responsibility for the defeat,” Suhail said.

From Group B, Saudi and Bahrain sailed through to the semis.
