Doha: Coach Erwin Koeman faced the music on Tuesday for Oman’s shock loss to Saudi Arabia and disappointing exit from the Gulf Cup.
The Dutchman reluctantly appearing at a news conference to show that he wasn’t afraid of the wave of criticism directed at him by the public.
Defending champion Oman’s stormy defeat at the hands of mighty Saudi Arabia 3-1 means they are now eliminated from the Gulf Cup.

Speaking to reporters. Koeman said he is not afraid of losing the job. “I am not afraid of losing this job. It’s up to the management to decide (the fate),” he said.
Fans on social media screamed on Monday night that the Reds played appallingly in the 3-1 loss to Saudi. For some, it was the worst defeat ever. For others, just the worst in a generation.
“It wasn’t a good night, for anyone,” Koeman said of the defeat. He insisted, however, that his team had showed signs of “good football” in the previous game against Kuwait before Monday’s defeat.
“So much is going to be written about our failure but I leave it to the management to decide on the outcomes,” Koeman added.
