Muscat: Diabetes is continuously on the rise in Oman, putting people at an increasing risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
According to the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), there is a 6 per cent rise in people with diabetes in 2018.
There were 6,792 new cases were reported in 2018 compared the previous year. A total of 94,921 cases diabetic cases were registered at national level in 2017, including 6,360 new cases in various governorates of Oman.

39 million in MENA region
425 million people have diabetes in the world and more than 39 million people in the MENA Region; by 2045 this will rise to 67 million. There were 367.700 cases of diabetes in Oman in 2017.
According to a health expert, diabetes is the root cause of a host of other diseases, and can seriously compromise the quality of life. “An active lifestyle and a balanced diet are all it takes to maintain a sound body. Let’s not get comfortable with such unhealthy notions in life, and strive to build a healthier tomorrow,” he added.
