Muscat: Indian expatriates from the South Indian state of Kerala can now receive legal aid through lawyers in Oman empanelled by their State government.

Advocate Girish, a lawyer of the Hassan Mohsin Legal Consultancy empanelled in the Indian Embassy panel of legal experts along with various other diplomatic missions, has been appointed as the Legal Consultant who is entrusted with giving legal consultancy to the south Indian community.

With the launch of the Pravasi Legal Aid Cell (PLAC), the cell will offer assistance for employment issues, filing cases and compensation. Similar aid will also be offered in UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait. 

Through this project, a person in distress or his immediate relatives or friends who hold valid documents can approach the cell for legal aid. The cell would also hold legal awareness programmes in association with various Malayali associations.

“I’m happy to have selected to be the Legal Consultant with the PLAC which is entrusted with the tasks of rendering services related to their work abroad, knowing legal procedures of any issue here or back home”, said Advocate Gireesh, who added that legal awareness campaigns will be conducted among the 400,000 Malayali community in Oman. 

At the press briefing held at the Malabar Talkies Hotel in Ruwi and attended by PM Jabir, Community Welfare Secretary with the Indian Social Club Muscat.
