Winners of design competition for Madayn head office project announced

Madayn announced yesterday (Tuesday) the results of a competition announced by Shumookh for the architectural design of Madayn’shead office building.

Muscat: Shumookh Investment and Services Company, the investment arm of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates – Madayn announced yesterday (Tuesday) the results of a competition announced by Shumookh for the architectural design of Madayn’shead office building.The winners’ announcement event was held at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat under the auspices of Hilal bin Hamad Al Hasani, CEO of Madayn.

Eng. Ayman bin Saif Al Qariwas selected as the first place winner and received RO 10,000;F&M Middle East Engineering Consultancy received RO 5,000 for the second place; and Abdulla Mukadam & Partners received RO 2,000 for the third place.

Speaking at the event, Eng. Musallam Al Hudaifi, CEO of Shumookh Investment and Services, stated that Madayn along with its investment arm Shumookh aim at developing infrastructure of the industrial cities with globally competitive capabilities, and strive to create the best environment for the growth of industries in the Sultanate. “In addition to that, Madayn and Shumookh aim to attract strategic regional and global investments and partnerships, and contribute to enhancement of the national income through creating opportunities for the national cadres. These objectives come in light of the rapid growth witnessed by the industrial sector in Oman and to achieve the future vision of the Omani economy,” Al Hudaifi pointed out.

Al Hudaifi added that real estate development companies, architectural and engineering consultancy companies, and local architects (architecture students) were invited to submit their participations of the architectural design of Madayn’s head office building that meet the future aspirations of Madayn and its expansion plans.

General terms and conditions for participation in the competition have been developed and announced in May this year through advertisements on the newspapers and social media platforms. This has eventually encouraged the real estate development companies, consultancy offices and individuals to submit their proposals.

The number of participations has reached 29, and were evaluated according to the developed evaluation criteria by a committee formed by Madayn. Of the 29 participants, 16 qualified for the second stage. Then, six qualified for the final stage and were invited to discuss their submitted designs in the presence of the committee. Accordingly, the top three winners were selected.

It is worth mentioning that Shumookh Investment and Services is the developing company of Madayn’s head office building. Shumookh was established in October 2010 to develop globally competitive industrial infrastructure in the industrial cities and create the best environment for the growth of industries in Oman through attracting strategic partnerships to invest and implement diverse infrastructure development projects in the industrial cities of Madayn.

The architectural design of the project reflects Madayn’s initiatives in establishing environmentally-friendly buildings featuring an open and spacious workspace in an innovative way for employees, clients and visitors. The construction of the project is expected to commence this year. Madayn’s head office will be located on a prime location at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat with a distinctive view of Muscat expressway.
