Muscat: In the recently concluded Berlin Marathon 2019, sponsored by Giti Tires, Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele, the former Olympic and world 5,000m and 10,000m champion, scorched to a stunning 2:01:41 victory, the second fastest performance of all-time, falling short of the world marathon record by just two seconds.

A part of the ‘World Marathon Majors’ which also encompasses similar events in Tokyo, Boston, London, Chicago and New York City, the Berlin Marathon featured great sports and top endurance runners from all over the world including Australia, Finland, South Africa, USA and the UK.

The most spectacular German race which covers 42.195 kilometres,attracted 46,983 participants. It included the millionth finisher, since the marathon was initiated in 1974.10 runners were successful in achieving the Guinness World Records title such as fastest marathoner dressed as a dragon (male) and fastest marathoner dressed as a vampire (female).
