MUSCAT: A large number of voters, especially women, queued up at polling stations across the country from early morning as authorities expected more than 70 per cent voting at the end of the polls for the ninth term of Oman’s Majlis Al Shura.
“Looking at the response since the morning, we reckon more than 70 per cent voting for the poll at the end of the day at 7pm,” Talal Al Saadi, Secretary of Main Election Committee said.
The number of voters with activated electoral cards stood at 713,335. They are choosing from 637 candidates who are vying for 86 seats in the Majlis Al Shura, according to the Ministry of Interior.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior has denied rumours of closing down a voting centre in Liwa.
In a statement issued online, the Ministry said: “There is no truth in what is being circulated on social media platforms about the closure of an electoral center in wilayat of Al Mudhaibi (Samad Al Shan area).”
