Muscat: Al Rusayl Industrial City, which falls under the umbrella of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates – Madayn, celebrated yesterday (Thursday) Omani Women’s Day which falls on 17th October of every year. The event was held under the auspices of Eng. Musallam bin Mohammed Al Shehri, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of Madayn for Operations, and in the presence of Eng. Mohsin bin Zahran Al Hinai, Director General of Al Rusayl Industrial City. The female employees based at Al Rusayl Industrial City joined the event. Samail Industrial City also hosted an event to celebrate the day in the presence of Eng. Dawood bin Salim Al Hadabi, Director General of Samail Industrial City. These celebrations come in line with Madayn’s efforts to recognise the achievements of the female cadres working in the industrial sector.

Celebrating the Omani Women’s Day too, the National Business Centre (NBC) which pertains to Madayn, organised a discussion session for Omani female entrepreneurs that focused on the challenges faced by the female entrepreneurs in the Sultanate. The session briefed the audience on the vision of NBC to offer promising Omani entrepreneurs a platform to develop their business ideas and advance them into growing ventures. NBC representatives explained that the centre aims to facilitate and support the growth of investable ideas into successful businesses; build entrepreneurial skills through training, coaching and mentoring services; and provide business support facilities to ensure the success and survival of new businesses.

The discussion session then identified the challenges facing the female entrepreneurs which include random and unplanned ideas, not being fully dedicated in the early years of the business, nonawareness of selecting the ideal platforms to start the business in, unavailability of accountants for the business, starting the business with a large capital, having improper business plan, lack of confidence in dealing with clients, and choice of unlikely locations to offer services.
