MUSCAT:The Royal Oman Police (ROP) will soon introduce electronic kiosks in shopping malls for the renewal of vehicle registration (mulkiya), a senior official told The Arabian Stories.

The touchscreen-enabled kiosks would be conveniently placed at popular public places, including malls and commercial centres, helping people to avoid long queues at police vehicle registration centres.

The pilot project which is currently in test phase will be installed across all governorates soon. “We are currently running in-house trial runs of the kiosks and the results have been good so far. Hopefully, we will be able to launch the service soon,” the police official said.

Once the insurance formalities are completed, vehicle owners can use the kiosks to obtain the registration card (mulkiya.). The kiosks will be implemented in coordination with Omantel.

Earlier, the ROP had launched a mobile application to help motorists renew their vehicle registration. With this app, owners can renew their vehicle registration and also pay the traffic fines. “This is still in use and they can still pay the fines through the app,” the official added.
