Muscat: As part of its efforts to strengthen ties and forge new trade links with Oman, the Welsh Government will be supporting eight businesses during a trade mission to Muscat this week. The delegation will be in the capital until October 7, before travelling on to Kuwait.

The businesses, from Wales’ technology, creative, food and drink, professional services and manufacturing sectors are aiming to develop their trading relationships with Oman, by using opportunities to network and showcase their products and services.

During the mission, they will be attending a number of meetings and receptions, as well as arranging one-to-one meetings while the mission is in progress.

Oman and Wales have a long-standing trade partnership, and further developing this relationship is a priority for the Welsh Government. Between 2013 and 2018, exports of goods from Wales to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region reached a cumulative total of £5.8 billion. More widely, the UK is the largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Oman by a considerable margin, with its investment accounting for 45 per cent of total FDI.

Commenting on the mission, Welsh Government Minister for International Relations, Eluned Morgan, said: “This trade mission will provide an ideal platform for eight innovative Welsh businesses to build on existing links and establish new partnerships. Oman is a fast-growing market which offers opportunities for Welsh businesses across a variety of sectors, ranging from technology and manufacturing through to creative industries and food and drink.

“Trade missions are an important part of our ongoing commitment to sell Wales to the world and highlight that we are very much open for business. We want our friends across the globe to know that Wales is the ideal partner to trade with and invest in.

“We look forward to showcasing the best of Welsh business throughout the two days, helping them to develop and strengthen their trading relationships with Omani companies and drive growth.”

After two days in Muscat, the trade delegation will be travelling on to Kuwait City. The trade mission will begin with a business networking reception, and run from October 8 – 10.
